Kid Sight

In 2022, with the sponsorship from Micron Foundation and Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn Bhd and our working partner Pearl Optometrist – Chai Leng Park, we were able to conduct free eye screening and prescription of eyeglasses to underprivileged children.

Over 65 primary schools in Penang & Kedah participated in this project and over 670 underprivileged children received free eyeglasses. These children are now able to read, write and continue their school lessons thanks to the Micron Foundation.

Microbit Training Programme

The Rotary Club of Butterworth is working with the Penang Science Cluster (PSC), to undertake the Micro:Bit Training programme for students in SRK Convent Butterworth.

20 refurbished laptops were handed over and Rotary sponsored teach-ware in the form of the MicroBit kits to the schools

The “teachers training programme” was delivered by trainers from PSC.

These teachers will then tutor the students in Standard 5. The school has agreed to set up special clubs, comprising students in Standard 4 and Standard 6, who will also undergo this programme.

I Choose To Reuse

In 2012, we carried out a joint project with other Rotary Clubs and Interact Clubs, raising awareness in support of reusing grocery shopping bags at Giant – Taman Inderawasih, Seberang Perai.

In 2019, Penang state was one of the first to introduce a no-plastic bag policy followed by all other states in 2022.

Walkathon (Mouth Cancer Awareness)

Another joint project with other NGOs to raise awareness for Mouth Cancer Awareness which was spearheaded by Penang International Dental College.

Penang’s state Deputy Chief Minister II Prof. Dr. Ramasamy and MP Steven Sim together with other leaders of the community were in attendance to officiate the event.

After the completion of the walkathon, participants were treated to a class of Zumba, door gifts and other activities relating to mouth cancer awareness.

We also set up a booth at the event to raise awareness and interacted with the crowd that morning.
